The triggers used to prompt second screen mobile content use 4 different ‘data over sound’ frequencies:

1.Ultra Sonic Tokens (UST) - high frequency sonic audio (above 18.5kHz) is added to media on all full band audio mediums, such as TV, DAB, VOD and streaming.

For ease of understanding the UST content can be treated as a separate stream, audio feed, an inaudible feed that has encoded tokenised data embedded. In reality this audio data technology is placed in the existing broadcast audio output, meaning there is no impact or hardware/software requirements, therefore no cost of implementation needed on the existing broadcast channels.

UST’s do not contain any information aside from a unique secure ID. This ID provides the back-office/device with a reference to lookup and deliver content, as set by the CMS admin/brand. The receiving app is able to detect the token as it is synchronised on-demand with the CMS (when internet access is available), to update UST prompts. This process allows the app to still receive prompts regardless of any connection to Wi-Fi or cell data being available. Our technology will work even in device ‘Airplane’ mode where no comms are being received. Audio is the only media required.

Full control of content delivery is provided in real-time by our CMS platform, allowing ‘on demand’ changes of content delivered to customers at any time. This is important for live media, where second screen content is based on screen media delivery, such as live sports, live events or news/weather slots.
